Early birthday sushi dinner at Ichiban Kan in Woodland Hills — one of those “throw a rock and you’ll hit it” sushi places on Ventura Boulevard in the Valley. I believe wholeheartedly in Ventura Boulevard sushi.  

I ordered: Japanese mackerel, Spanish mackerel, ankimo (monkfish liver) cocktail (which Kevin said reminded him the MOST of cat food, but probably because he’s had that on the brain lately), shishito peppers with bonito flakes, and sweet shrimp.

I plucked a deep-fried eyeball from one of the shrimp heads and popped it in my mouth.

Then I ate their heads.
