Kitten Update!
Troy and Abed were sick this past week. It was devastating. Shortly after getting their latest vaccines, they both stopped eating. As in, went from energetic Hungry Hungry Hippos who hoovered up anything you put in front of them, to sleepy little supermodels who wouldn’t touch their fancy natural organic kitten food with a ten-foot tongue.
Then there was vomiting. And diarrhea. Trips to the vet. Antibiotics prescribed. Then force-feeding with a syringe full of soft food mixed with water (so they wouldn’t dehydrate). Force-feeding with a finger slathered in Nutrical. Many tiny dishes of warm KMR (kitten milk replacement) and cold water spread all over the house (so they would continue to not dehydrate). Epic kitten farts were endured (ABED!). Many internet kitten forums were visited. Daddy had to cancel a very important conference to stay home with the kids.
The vet was casual and chalked it up to a respiratory infection (if they’ve got a cold and can’t smell, they don’t want to eat). I was mostly worried about Troy — he was eating the least and moving the least. When he did get up, you could see his tiny little birdy bones stretching against his fur as he moved, losing all of that kitten chub almost before your eyes.
Then, of course, they started eating again yesterday. (Of course Daddy cancelled a week-long conference only for the kids to get better immediately!) Energy is back. Cuteness is assured. But once they get older, we’ll never let them forget.
